Emvital is a functional laser that eases muscle and joint pain, stiffness, and spasm, and temporarily raises circulation where it is applied. Ours is the first and only one on the island. On August 5 we are opening the doors so you can see it, ask Sharon anything, and hear why we think it belongs alongside Emsculpt Neo and Emface rather than beside them.

What we are unveiling

Meet Emvital

Emvital is a 1064 nm near infrared laser from BTL, built on TriHIL technology. It reaches muscle and joint tissue below the surface and gently raises the temperature of the tissue it treats.

It is FDA cleared for temporary relief of muscle and joint pain, stiffness, minor arthritis pain, and muscle spasms, and for promoting muscle relaxation and temporarily increasing local circulation.

It runs two ways. The hands free applicator covers a broad area while you rest, with an ultrasonic sensor and an infrared camera holding the dose steady without anyone standing over you. The handheld applicator lets Sharon work one specific spot. A typical plan is four sessions a few days apart.

The Emvital laser unit

Why this event exists

Blood flow first. Then the work.

Most practices talk about these machines one at a time. That is not how we use them, and it is not how BTL studied them.

A muscle that is tight, guarded, and short on blood supply does not respond well to being asked to work. Emvital changes those conditions first. It raises circulation in the area, eases spasm, and lets tight tissue let go. What comes next lands on tissue that is ready for it.

One prepares the area. The other conditions it. BTL ran a clinical trial on each pairing, and both are below.

The jaw study

Jaw pain, clicking, clenching, and grinding usually trace back to a masseter that will not let go.

The muscle is tight, overworked, and short on circulation. For the TMJ protocol the Emface cheek applicators are repositioned over the temporomandibular joint and deliver HIFES with synchronized RF straight to the masseter and the muscles around it. The RF warming relaxes the muscle and raises local blood flow. The HIFES rebalances the pattern that keeps the jaw clenched. Emvital works the same area to ease spasm and stiffness.

Forty eight patients with TMJ pain received four Emvital and Emface treatments on the symptomatic area. At the one month follow up:

  • 90.3%reported reduced TMJ pain
  • 93.3%showed functional improvement in eating, chewing, yawning, and sleeping
  • 86.7%reported easier mouth movement and a more relaxed jaw
  • 4.2mmaverage improvement in comfortable jaw opening range
  • 90.5%found the treatments comfortable, with no adverse events reported

Applegate B, Chandra T, Dhanani S, Wade J. Prospective multicenter single arm study, 48 patients aged 24 to 83, four combined Emvital and Emface treatments on the symptomatic TMJ area. One month preliminary results. Single arm design, no control group.

If you clench, grind, wake with a sore jaw, or have been told you need a night guard, this is the conversation to have on August 5.

The back study

The back is where the sequence is easiest to feel.

Tight, guarded muscle does not want to be loaded, and loading it anyway is how people end up back where they started. Emvital takes the guard down. Emsculpt Neo then rebuilds what has gone quiet underneath it.

Twenty eight patients received four Emvital and four Emsculpt Neo treatments on the symptomatic back area. At the one month follow up:

  • 77.8%reported less pain
  • 88.5%reported functional improvement in walking, sitting, lifting, and bending
  • 74.1%reported less pain when moving or bending
  • 64.3%improved flexibility when bending sideways
  • 86.1%found the treatments comfortable, with no adverse events reported

Schacter J, Abdulhamid M, Bracic I, Craner J, Hensel E. Prospective multicenter single arm study, 28 patients aged 28 to 81, four combined Emvital and Emsculpt Neo treatments on the symptomatic back area. IRB approved. One month preliminary results. Single arm design, no control group.

Average disability scores fell from 34.6 at baseline to 15.2 at the one month follow up.

Emvital on its own

Studied on the knee, against a control group

Two controlled trials looked at Emvital by itself in knee osteoarthritis. These are the papers with control groups, and both are published.

  • 81.0%reduction in resting pain, in 72 patients given seven daily treatments
  • 74.9%reduction in pain during palpation, same study
  • 37.0%improvement toward a natural, confident, and stable gait pattern
  • 43.8%decrease in knee pain in a separate randomized controlled trial of 60 patients

In both trials the control groups stayed essentially flat over the same period.

Is Emvital only for people in pain?

No. It is cleared to relax muscle, ease spasm and stiffness, and temporarily raise circulation, which covers most of what recovery asks for. Tight shoulders and stiff mornings count.

How is Emvital different from red light?

Red light works at the cellular level to support energy and repair. Emvital uses focused laser warmth to ease muscle and joint discomfort and help tight areas relax. They serve different purposes and can complement each other.
